Graham Market Festival

Client URBAN RENEWAL AUTHORITY 香港市區重建局

In 2019, Eric was invited by the Urban Renewal Authority to join the promotion of “Graham Market Festival”. Eric used colorful illustrations to bring the Chinese text of Graham (嘉咸) to life, creating an eyecatching and visually striking typography that's sure to leave a lasting impression. A series of vibrant promotional items including posters, shopping bag, mask and memo pad were designed to raise the awareness for the redevelopment of the 160-year-old Graham Street Market.

The design concept features the bustling world of Hong Kong’s oldest wet markets with scales, fruit and vegetable stalls, chicken cages, classic red lanterns and the braided hair Amahs housemaids. It also paid tribute to the iconic braided hair Amahs, housemaids from the 1950s who embodied independence and resistance to relying on men or marriage. Together, these elements create a vivid and unforgettable picture of the vibrant wet market culture.

The Central and Western District Market in Hong Kong has a history of over a hundred years. To help the market vendors cope with the ongoing challenges posed by the pandemic, the Urban Renewal Authority organized the "Central and Western District Market: A Celebration of Old Hong Kong Culture" event. Six renowned Hong Kong designers were brought together to integrate art and design with the market culture to create various products. The event was held from December 2020 to January 2021 and successfully attracted media coverage and public participation.
